Vitamin D Article

What is Vitamin D?

Vitamin D has several important roles in the body, for example, it helps control the amount of calcium and phosphate we produce, which is needed to keep your bones and teeth healthy. Having a vitamin D deficiency can damage the way your body absorbs calcium and phosphorus. Vitamin D is found in only a few foods, mainly fish and mushrooms that have absorbed the UV rays from the sun, which is our main source of the vitamin. Supplementing with Vitamin D is the best way to keep a good constant level, because let’s face it, we don’t get that much sun here!

Benefits of Vitamin D?

  • Improved bone and teeth health
  • Support Heart function
  • Promote healthy thyroid function
  • Improved calcium and phosphorus intake
  • Nerve health
  • Disease Inhibitory Effects
  • Immune System Modulation
  • Increase in testosterone levels

Dosage and timing:

Getting the correct amount of vitamin D without supplementation can be difficult; therefore we recommended using between 6000 IU-9000 IU daily if you are training hard or following a bodybuilding type of lifestyle. Vitamin D should ideally be consumed with a meal, and can be taken at any time of the day, though some people have reported trouble sleeping when taking it later in the evening.

What I personally use:

Personally I use vitamin D daily first thing in the morning with my first meal. I use an oral spray as is easily absorbed and doesn’t put the liver through stress as some studies say high doses of vitamin D can have a high level of toxicity. My daily dose is 9000iu, with following a strict diet and training plan, I need to full effects of vitamin D therefore taking a high dose.
